This research aims to present an analysis of the theoretical and practical contributions of Critical Mathematics Education (CME) through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of articles published in the academic journal Tangram, highlighting the themes addressed, the identified potentialities, and the challenges reported throughout the 21st century. To achieve these objectives, the methodology employed was an SLR based on the PRISMA protocol (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses). A search was conducted using the descriptor “critic” in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, resulting in 59 studies, of which nine were selected for the sample after applying eligibility criteria, based on their alignment with the CME theme. The review was guided by the following research question: What are the contributions, challenges, and advances presented by articles on Critical Mathematics Education published in the Tangram journal? The explored articles, which address themes such as sustainability, financial education, social justice, and the use of digital technologies in Mathematics teaching, identified contributions including strengthening the connection between Mathematics and social issues, promoting ethical and cultural reflections; the use of investigative scenarios to engage students in real-world problems; and the promotion of critical citizenship through the analysis of statistical data and the modeling of everyday situations.
