The criticism of racism in the book The Help, by Kathryn Stockett: a view from French Discourse Analysis

The purpose of this research work was to accomplish the discourse analysis of the work of fiction “The Help” by Kathryn Stockett, from the translation process of excerpts from this work. It is a work of denunciation and criticism of racism in the United States of the 50s and 60s of the last century, experienced daily by the maids. In this way, it is fundamental that the translation of the work be capable of maintaining this tone of denunciation and also show the impact of racism on the dignity of these women. Through the instrumental of discourse analysis, which proposes the manipulation of certain analytic categories, it was possible to carry out a translation that was capable of maintaining the criticism of the racism contained in the text, that makes the original work an important literary achievement.Downloads
