Traditionally, university extension programs in Brazilian universities have been linked to undergraduate studies. However, recently, the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) has encouraged graduate programs to develop actions that provide a greater contribution to society, through the promotion of university extension, in addition to applied research, the training of professionals committed to social transformation, and articulation with public policies, among other dimensions. In this sense, the Graduate Program in Geography (GEOCERES) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) has been intensely involved in university extension, developing projects, courses, and events that aim to bring society closer to graduate studies. The actions developed by GEOCERES seek to contribute to the demands of society, whether through the training of professionals committed to social issues or through actions related to territorial management and sustainable regional development.
