The unsatisfactory performance of students in Mathematics, especially in the 9th year of elementary school, is a recurring challenge in several Brazilian municipal school systems. In Maracanaú (CE), IDEB and SPAECE indexes show results below state averages, raising concerns about the quality of teaching and learning in this subject. Given this context, in 2023, the Municipal Department of Education implemented the Olympic Poles of Intensive Preparation in Mathematics (POPI Mat) Project, aiming to prepare students for scientific Olympiads and foster interest in the subject. This study aims to analyze the perception of Mathematics teachers regarding the effects of POPI Mat on student motivation, participation, and development of mathematical skills. This is a quantitative, descriptive research conducted with 15 municipal network teachers who teach classes with students participating in the project. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire with a Likert scale and statistically analyzed. The results indicated a mostly positive perception from teachers regarding the impact of POPI Mat, highlighting an increase in students' interest in Mathematics, greater participation in scientific Olympiads, and increased self-confidence. However, weaknesses were also pointed out, especially in the development of abstract thinking, creativity, and innovation in problem-solving. It is concluded that POPI Mat represents a relevant initiative for stimulating mathematical learning, but it requires adjustments and articulation with broader educational policies to ensure consistent and lasting results.
