Similarity Policy
The Revista Tangram reaffirms its commitment to academic and scientific integrity, editorial ethics, and respect for intellectual authorship, rigorously opposing practices of plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and any other forms of misappropriation of third-party works.
All manuscripts submitted to Revista Tangram undergo similarity checks using specialized software before being forwarded to reviewers. This analysis aims to identify excessive textual overlap, inadequate citation, reproduction of ideas or excerpts without proper credit, or redundant publication of content already disclosed by the same author, even partially.
Plagiarism is understood as the total or partial appropriation of texts, ideas, data, images, tables, or any other intellectual material from third parties without proper reference or authorization. Self-plagiarism is understood as the substantial reuse of content already previously published by the same author, without adequate indication, thus constituting duplicate publication or improper fragmentation of results. Both practices violate the principles of ethics in research and scientific publishing and will not be tolerated.
Confirmed cases of plagiarism or self-plagiarism will be analyzed by the Editorial Team and the Scientific Board of Revista Tangram. Once misconduct is confirmed, the manuscript will be rejected, or, if already published, formally retracted. Authors involved may be temporarily barred from submitting new work to the journal, and their affiliated institutions may be notified. In severe cases, Revista Tangram may report the matter to the appropriate authorities.
In addition to violating international principles of scientific integrity, such practices also constitute violations of Brazilian law. According to the Brazilian Civil Code (Law No. 10,406/2002), Article 24, the author holds the moral right to claim authorship of their work. The Brazilian Penal Code (Decree-Law No. 2,848/1940), Article 184, considers copyright infringement a crime, subject to criminal and civil penalties, including compensation for material and moral damages.
Revista Tangram strongly encourages all authors to adopt rigorous practices of citation, reference, and transparency regarding the origin of data and ideas used in their manuscripts, in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Preventing and reporting improper conduct are shared responsibilities among authors, reviewers, editors, and the scientific community.
This policy reflects Revista Tangram’s commitment to the quality, ethics, and trustworthiness of its scientific publications, ensuring rightful recognition of legitimate authors and the credibility of the knowledge produced.
