This paper aims to identify the dimensions of the cognitive process contemplated in the activities present in a 5th grade textbook, in relation to the thematic unit probability and statistics, to disclose the potential for the cognitive development of students. The analyzes were based on Bloom's Taxonomy and on the dimensions of the cognitive process structured in this theory. The research is bibliographical and follows a qualitative approach. In this study, it was evident that less complex dimensions of the cognitive process were prioritized and that other dimensions needed greater support for better use. In view of what was evidenced, it is important to emphasize the role of the teacher who teaches Mathematics in recognizing the dimensions of the cognitive process that each question can develop and fill the gaps that can become obstacles to the students' cognitive development.
