The article analyzes The carbonaries: memories of lost guerrilla [1980], by Alfredo Syrkis, in order to characterize as forms of representation of the opposition to the Brazilian military regime (1964-1985). He is autobiographical in the author who narrates his experience as an opponent of the regime referred to between the 1960s and the beginning of the 1970s. His actions in the passages prior to AI-5, and also in the urban guerrilla are the subjects of prominence. Syrkis represents an opposition in order to activate as public forms of its political action, criticizing, in contrast, as private and violent actions, of that same opposition. For the purpose of analysis, consult the book in two parts: pre and post AI-5. In the first, there is a serious way of displaying opposition; in the second, a comic way. To this end, the work is anchored in the reflections of Bakhtin (1990) and Auerbach (1994), both dealing with serious and real styles as forms of literary representation.
