Gabriel wants to be an astronomer

Abstract

This paper aims at presenting and discussing the use of audio description and the need for adapting activities in Science textbooks, as well as the use of tactile materials in the said subject to expand knowledge and offer participation in equal conditions. As a point of departure and source of inspiration, I will describe the visit of Gabriel Ferreira, an 11-year old blind boy who wishes to be an astronomer, to the Santo André Planetarium, at Escola Parque do Conhecimento Sabina. I also highlight the importance and the role of audio description as well as of mediation activities in the classroom as powerful instruments for expansion of knowledge and increased participation of all students.
