Abstract

The article analyzes teaching competence in the context of higher education, with a central focus on the importance of digital proficiency for pedagogical practices. The objective of the study is to identify the relevance of digital competence in the pedagogical practice of higher education teachers based on data from global organizations and national and international educational documents. The methodology adopted is based on bibliographic and documentary research. The main results show that only 18% of teachers working in Brazilian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) have advanced digital competence, which represents a significant obstacle both for the training of future teachers and for the implementation of continuing education proposals appropriate for teachers to work in teaching contexts mediated by digital technologies.

Débora Suzane Gomes Mendes é mestre em Educação pela Universidade Federal do Maranhão (UFMA). Especialista em Metodologia do Ensino Superior (UFMA), Informática na Educação (IFMA), Metodologias para a EAD (UNIASSELVI) e Psicopedagogia Institucional, Clínica, Empresarial e Hospitalar (Faculdade Santa Fé). Graduada em Licenciatura Plena em Pedagogia pela Universidade Federal do Maranhão (UFMA). Trabalhou como professora substituta do Departamento de Educação e Filosofia (DEFIL) da UEMA. Trabalhou como professora formadora no Curso de Licenciatura em Pedagogia da UEMANet. Trabalhou como consultora educacional do ecossistema Apple Education.Trabalhou no Núcleo de Educação a Distância (NEAD) da UFMA, desenvolvendo atividades como coordenadora pedagógica da EaD, professora orientadora de TCC no Curso de Especialização em Gestão Pública Municipal, professora formadora nos cursos da graduação da EaD, tutora a distância dos cursos da graduação da EaD. Trabalhou no Núcleo de Educação a Distância (NEAD) da UESPI na função de professora orientadora no Curso de Especialização em Gestão Educacional. Trabalhou na UNIASSELVI como professora-autora e avaliadora de livros didáticos da graduação e pós-graduação para a modalidade de EaD. Trabalhou no Programa de Formação de Professores da Educação Básica do Governo Federal "Escola da Terra" (SECADI/UFMA) como professora formadora e orientadora de TCC. Foi bolsista e pesquisadora no Programa Institucional de Bolsa de Iniciação à Docência (PIBID). Atualmente, é doutoranda no Programa de Pós Graduação em Educação: Conhecimento e Inclusão Social
