Cultural practices such as adjusting the sowing density of soybeans have contributed significantly to the prevention and management of foliar diseases, through changes caused in plant growth, closure of inter-rows and the penetration rate of pesticides into the crop canopy. The objective was to quantify the severity of fungal leaf diseases and the level of defoliation throughout the production cycle of soybean cultivars submitted to different sowing densities. To this end, two cultivars were used, arranged in five sowing densities. During the reproductive period of the crop, visual evaluations were performed using diagrammatic scales proposed to quantify the severity of leaf diseases in the crop and the degree of plant defoliation. In general, the increase in plant density provided greater severity of end-of-cycle diseases, intensifying plant defoliation in both soybean cultivars.
