Contemporary dance and modern jazz

Abstract

The cultural workshops are an extension project of the Cultural Coordination Office of the Federal University of Grande Dourados (UFGD) and aim to offer artistic training and development in music, visual arts, performing arts, dance and literature. The contemporary dance and modern jazz workshops, both taught by the academic author of this article, are part of this project and are intended to offer dance to interested parties of a wide range of ages. The activities take place at Unit I of the UFGD, at the Weimar Gonçalves Torres Municipal School and at the Aurora Pedroso de Camargo Municipal School, where participants are taught the fundamentals of contemporary and creative dance, as well as modern jazz, providing students with body awareness in space, freedom of expression and quality exercise through the physical conditioning of dance. The workshops are successful, and those enrolled participate with interest in the classes, enabling teacher-student interaction and very constructive and productive group interaction. After just one month of work, improvements were noted in the posture and quality with which students perform the proposed exercises.
