Abstract

The indigenous huts (ocas) are typical constructions of their natives, made with natural elements, such as wood, bamboo, and sapê (Imperata brasiliensis) in the majority, among other materials. Several indigenous peoples had already inhabited Brazil before the arrival of the Portuguese in 1500, and the huts were used essentially as collective housing. Over the years, due to urban expansion, deforestation, and the evolution of construction systems, the number of these huts has been decreasing significantly. In this way, building an indigenous hut for children's education students is a way of bringing memories that represent many indigenous peoples in Brazil, valuing their culture and making possible a connection between socio-environmental education in the exploratory pedagogical environment and leisure. Therefore, the goal of this work was the development of the design of a recreational indigenous hut in CEI “Maria Alice Silvestre” (former CEI-UFGD) with a wooden and bamboo structure. The project methodology consisted of a preliminary analysis, elaboration of a physical model of the hollow, study of the materials used, sizing of the wooden structure, and follow-up of the execution and orientations on the care with the use and maintenance. The indigenous hut (oca) project was conceived according to the needs presented by the institution's team and executed with the approval of the school's indigenous families. Upon completion, the project's level of compliance with the expectations of the pedagogical proposals was evaluated as satisfactory. In addition, the extension provided interaction between academics and the community, with the application of knowledge learned in class to directly benefit it.
