A semiotic study of soap opera A Favorita - a proposal for teaching

Abstract

This project proposes a study of discourse about prejudice, just as this issue is addressed in the soap opera A Favorita, written by Joao Emanuel Carneiro, aired by Globo TV in the period of June/2008 to February/2009. We utilize the methodology of analysis tools of greimasian semiotics, theoretically capable of supporting languages television, besides promoting the development of activities of reception and production of textbooks, functioning thus as an option to conduct teaching. Using the theme of prejudice experienced by the characters in the soap opera in different ways, we aim to provide models of teaching sequences in order to develop some strategies for teaching the mother tongue, reflecting also around common themes (so considered by the theorists of education).
