Silenced biographies: a semiotic trajectory of the hero in Lima Barreto and Theodoro Sampaio

Abstract

In an attempt to bring up a discussion about the contribution of blacks in the construction of Brazilian national identity, this paper analyzes the semiotic path of two personalities: Lima Barreto and Theodoro Sampaio. The first stood out in the area of literature and the second in geography. The trajectory of the black man in Brazil was marked by the struggle of forces, translated in the imbalance between the subjects, marked by the discourse of intolerance and the reproduction of prejudices - present in the school education and whose combat has been carried out through educational policies and own legislation. The greimasian semiotics serves as theoretical framework through which discussed the narrative path of the black hero, in order to unveil their struggle and make visible its historical and cultural identity in the midst of a story built by Europeanized thought.
