Abstract

Based on the concern with teaching Geography in basic education, the development of the project aims to enable greater articulation between the Geography contents that are disseminated in cartography, with a view to providing quality in the teaching/learning process. The objective is to develop in the participating student the ability to read, compare, analyze and interpret the map and, in this sense, perceive it not only as a figure or image. The project will be carried out in five stages: in the first, the preparation of Geography students will be carried out, who will be the collaborators in the development of the project. The second stage, already in the school where it is applied, consists of showing the importance of cartographic knowledge in the daily school life of students from the 6th to 9th grade of Elementary School II, in the Geography discipline. In the third stage, some important tools that corroborate the knowledge of cartographic language will be presented, as well as all the graphic semiology used in a map. In the fourth stage, the stages of constructing a map through the use of Geoprocessing will be presented. In the next stage, a report on the experience of the students participating in the project will be prepared. So far, the results have been an improvement in the grades/averages of students from 6th to 9th grade of elementary school, where the project is being carried out, as well as an improvement in discipline and participation during classes.
