Abstract

This summary celebrates the role of the Postgraduate Program in Geography (PPGEO), at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) and its. Initiated in 1955 and formalized in 1957, the course has been essential in training geographers specialized in the diverse Amazon region. Originating from the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences, and Letters, and later evolving into the Institute of Philosophy and Human Sciences, the course marked its early importance in the academic structure of UFPA. The course goes beyond its educational role, significantly contributing to the political and scientific development in Pará and the Amazon. It serves as a guide for geographers navigating the complexities of the Amazon ecosystems, promoting understanding and sustainable management of the region. The essay acknowledges the course as a historical element of UFPA and highlights its ongoing role in inspiring innovations and deepening the understanding of the biodiversity and ecology of the Amazon. The text pays tribute to the course's legacy and encourages new generations to maintain and expand the geographical knowledge of the Amazon.
