Abstract

The Graduate Program in Geography at the Federal University of Viçosa (PPGEO-UFV), created in 2018, was evaluated in the 2017–2020 quadrennium, when it had only two years of existence. However, in the 2021–2024 quadrennium, it will be assessed within a full evaluation cycle. In this context, the purpose of this article is to share the experiences of the program’s still brief history and to analyze its main impacts on the local and regional community. As a methodology, the quantitative–qualitative analysis was based on written documents used to complete the Sucupira Platform. In conclusion, it is evident that throughout its trajectory, PPGEO-UFV has contributed to the high-quality training and social engagement of successive generations of researchers, responsible for a variety of scientific studies of great educational and social relevance. It can be concluded that the program has achieved its objectives of professional training for higher education, basic education, and other specific areas of Geography, influencing society in various ways and dimensions.
