Abstract

There is a clear mismatch between the training of professionals in agricultural sciences and the reality of rural areas, where settlements are complex family farming production units that require attention in several dimensions, in addition to production. The methodology of this work was based on progressive liberating pedagogy, which aims to lead educators and students to reach a level of awareness of the reality in which they live in the search for transformation. Local knowledge about production, bottlenecks that affect production and intervention methods for improving empirical knowledge for the preparation of workshops, practical activities and support material by academics were surveyed. Despite the differences in the results obtained, the settlement is no different from the reality of settlements located throughout Brazil. Agrarian reform should be considered a victory for settled families that, in addition to the fight for land, should provide an improvement in the integral development of families, taking into account all spheres of life.
