Abstract

La relación entre Estados Unidos y la República Popular de China se encuentra llena de complejidad. Existen factores en dicha relación que la favorecen, pero también está el lado negativo que no permite una integración de amistad y confianza total. La relación actual entre EE.UU. y China es claramente mixta, formada por un conjunto de elementos cooperativos y competitivos. La relación puede ser representada como residiendo en algún lugar a lo largo de un espectro que se extiende desde la cooperación pura en un extremo a la competencia desenfrenada y el conflicto en el otro. El futuro de las relaciones Estados Unidos-China será determinado por el choque entre estos dos conjuntos opuestos de fuerzas. Teniendo en cuenta eventos recientes, y bajo la perspectiva racionalista de las Relaciones Internacionales, este artículo procura demonstrar que las relaciones entre Estados Unidos y China será conflictiva o no en función de la capacidad para establecer consensos sobre sus intereses estratégicos, y que más allá de la desconfianza de ambos los lados, el conflicto militar directo no está asegurado.
