Coming out of the ontological closet: queer Arab identity in International Relations Theories

In the past few decades, International Relations debates have turned to spaces and actors forgotten by traditional perspectives, as in the case of Arab and queer identities. The study field, dominated by Global North’s hegemonic and heteronormative discourses, displayed a resistance to take out of the ontological closet the intersection between both. Thus, the article proposes to discuss the space for the Arab-queer intersection, through the theoretic-bibliographical analysis of identity studies in the field and of homocolonialism. As a study case, the media coverage of the 2022 World Coup was selected, for bringing to light the intersection as a discussion during the event.
