Education, school and violence: the perspectives of Students Slum Dwellers of Coque

Abstract

This article is from the Center for Theory and History of the PostGraduate Education of Federal University of Pernambuco and was extracted from the Master’s thesis: “Education and violence under the eyes and voices of the Boys and Girls Students Slum Dwellers of Coque". This paper presents a discussion on education, public schools and its problematic design that are linked to exclusion, reproductive behavior and the different types of violence. The approach emphasizes the views and voices of students living in the slums of Coque, located in the Metropolitan Region of Recife. From the twentieth century school education was presented to Brazilian society as the main strategy to minimize the social ills and solve the ills that afflict the population. However, we believe that is increasing the need to discuss the role of the school to better analyze how this institution can create opportunities for individuals autonomy and facilitate civic education. With the theory Elisiane conducted fruitful dialogue that contributed to the unraveling now, now to empirical data analysis of research.
