Abstract

This article investigates A Cruzada newspaper, an important Sergipe newspaper that existed from 1918-1970, and the Catholic Church in the Republican period, as a way of understanding the relationship between this periodical and the Christian ideal. In this sense, it seeks to provide an overview of how the Church in the twentieth century in Brazil and information about this Catholic weekly. It is important to point out that the present work is a cut of the master's research in development entitled Church, Power and Press: The anticommunist ideology in the Sergipe weekly A Cruzada (1937-1970). Thus, the analysis of the national and local Catholic Church in the republican period showed this institution very close to the political and social issues of its time, and precisely for this reason it is important to understand the broader scenario that are involved those responsible for the aforementioned Catholic periodical.
