Abstract

Recognizing the social impacts of graduate programs is essential to understand their trajectories and the perspectives that have guided them in fulfilling their social role. Despite broader guidelines that shape graduate education activities in Brazil, there are singularities that characterize this level of training, strongly connected to the geographical specificities of each program. In this sense, we present the trajectory of the Graduate Program in Geography of the Federal University of Mato Grosso, Cuiabá campus (POSGEO), throughout its 23 years of history and relevance in the context of Mato Grosso. The social impacts of POSGEO are directly linked to the elements that define its identity, among them the active integration of teaching, research, and outreach at both national and international levels. Such social impacts have been observed not only in projects focused on regional and national development but also in the qualified training of researchers, which enables the expansion of POSGEO’s actions in different contexts.
