In this article there is a central question: How does Carole Pateman understand the survival of patriarchy in modern society? This question is answered by analyzing the book “The Sexual Contract” of this author, an analysis made in the second part of this reflection. In the first part, it’s made a dialogue with three authors, trying to sketch characteristics that identify the patriarchy. These authors are Marcela Lagarde de los Ríos, Heleieth Saffioti and Göran Therborn. Connecting the two parts of the research, we conclude that patriarchy, as a system, is present in the various relationships and social structures, specifically as a regime that presupposes the domination-exploitation of women by men. The survival of patriarchy in modern society, in Pateman's view, is because paternal right has been restructured as a male right.
