Ethical Guidelines for Publishing

The Ethical Guidelines of RealizAção aim to contribute to the scientific quality of the journal, ensuring credibility for editors, authors, and readers. This code is based on the core practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the guidelines provided by the Council of Science Editors (CSE) to promote the integrity of standard scientific practices for publications in the field of Extension and Culture.

RealizAção adopts the definition of research misconduct provided by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The term is defined as "fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism in proposing or performing research." The NSF also specifies fabrication as “inventing data or results and recording or reporting them”; falsification as “manipulating materials, equipment, or processes of research or altering or omitting data or results” in such a way that “the research is not accurately represented”; and plagiarism as the "appropriation of another person's ideas, processes, results, or words without giving appropriate credit" (NSF, 2012, p. 237).

Therefore, plagiarism, falsification, and fabrication of data are considered research misconduct by RealizAção and will not be permitted. Authors must ensure that all data presented in submitted manuscripts are real and authentic.

Authorship and Contribution

  • Authors must ensure that the submitted manuscripts and their content are original and have not been submitted to another journal.
  • Authors of a submitted manuscript must have contributed to the development of the research. The addition of new authors will not be permitted after the manuscript has been accepted.
  • The content and opinions expressed in the publication are the sole responsibility of the authors. It is the responsibility of the corresponding author to ensure that all authors agree and are kept informed about the entire editorial process.
  • Authors must cite and organize the references that formed the theoretical and practical basis of their research according to the Author Guidelines.
  • Additionally, they must provide information, if applicable, about the sources of funding for the research, which should be acknowledged at the end of the article or in a footnote at the beginning.

Complaints and Appeals

  • By submitting a manuscript, authors agree to publish it in the journal.
  • Authors will be informed about the acceptance of their work before the editing/layout process begins, and they must express their desire to withdraw it if necessary. After editing, requests for withdrawal will only be accepted if justified and must be submitted to the journal by email for review by the Editorial Board.
  • In case of suspected plagiarism, the journal editor must contact the author for explanations. The deadline set by the editor must be respected. The author’s response will be evaluated by the Editorial Board, which will decide whether the manuscript should proceed, be revised by its authors, or be rejected.

Conflicts of Interest/Competing Interests

  • The journal editor must not have conflicts of interest regarding the manuscripts they accept or reject. In case of a conflict of interest, the editor will request the review and decision of a member of the Editorial Board who is not involved in the conflict.
  • Reviewers must disclose any personal, professional, intellectual, financial, political, or religious conflicts of interest to the editorial team of RealizAção. Considering the peer review process, reviewers should inform the editor if they know the identity of the author.

Data Sharing and Reproducibility

  • RealizAção is an open access journal. All of its content is freely available, at no cost to the user or their institution.
  • Users can read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles in this journal without prior permission from the editor or author.
  • Authors must declare their authorship of the submitted manuscripts and the legitimate use of any third-party materials, citing them appropriately.
  • All content presented in published articles in the journal is the sole responsibility of the authors, and reproduction of this content is permitted as long as the source is cited.

Ethical Oversight

  • Authors must ensure that the research, when appropriate, has been approved by the relevant entity (e.g., the Research Ethics Committee).
  • The Editorial Board of RealizAção is responsible for monitoring compliance with these ethical guidelines for publication. Additionally, the board must always consider changes in the standards of scientific publication in the field of Extension and Culture in their decisions.

Intellectual Property

  • Authors authorize the publication of the article in the journal.
  • Authors guarantee that their contribution is original and unpublished and is not under evaluation by another journal.
  • The journal is not responsible for the opinions, ideas, and concepts expressed in the texts, as these are the sole responsibility of the authors.
  • Authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right to first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Atribuição-NãoComercial-CompartilhaIgual 4.0 Internacional license, which allows others to share the work with proper attribution and acknowledgment of the initial publication in this journal.
  • Authors may enter into additional and separate contractual agreements for the non-exclusive distribution of the published version of the article in the journal (for example, publishing it in an institutional repository or in a book), provided that it is for non-commercial purposes, with acknowledgment of its initial publication in this journal.
  • Authors are authorized and encouraged to publish their articles online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their websites) only after publication.

Peer Review Processes

  • Reviewers must decline to review manuscripts for which they do not feel qualified.
  • Reviewers should only agree to review a manuscript if they possess knowledge of the topic to conduct an appropriate review and are available to meet deadlines.
  • Reviewers must not use or divert knowledge gained during the review process.
  • Reviewed manuscripts must be treated confidentially. Reviewers should respect the confidentiality of the peer review process and must not disclose any details of the manuscript or their review during or after the evaluation process.
  • Reviewer comments should be objective and constructive, avoiding hostility and personally defamatory or derogatory remarks.
  • Reviewers should identify flaws that can be corrected, indicating what needs to be done for that purpose. Reviewers may suggest relevant references for studies that have not been cited, when scientifically relevant to the article and/or its reformulation.
  • Reviewers should aim to indicate possible changes in the first review of the manuscript, avoiding new recommendations when the revised file is returned.
  • Authors may be invited to serve as reviewers in the journal's peer review process. If authors are asked to take on this role, they should do so diligently, promptly, and with scientific seriousness, contributing to the improvement of the manuscript.
  • RealizAção’s reviewers must adhere to the Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers of COPE.

Editorial Practices

The editorial practices of RealizAção are those described in the Guidance for Editors: Research, Audit, and Service Evaluations by COPE.

Post-Publication Discussions and Corrections

RealizAção acknowledges the importance of post-publication comments on published research as necessary for advancing scientific discourse.

Complaints, disagreements regarding interpretation, and other issues that arise should be sent to the journal's editor at euclidesoliveira@ufgd.edu.br. Readers/authors who identify such errors should clearly provide the publication reference, title, author, and section of the article, along with a brief explanation of the error.

RealizAção operates the following policy for making corrections to its online content that has been peer-reviewed:

  • Editor Correction: Notification of a significant error made by RealizAção that affects the publication record or the scientific integrity of the work, or the reputation of the authors or the journal.

  • Author Correction: Notification of a significant error made by the author(s) that affects the publication record or the scientific integrity of the work, or the reputation of the authors or the journal.

  • Retraction: Notification of invalid results that affect the reliability of a previously published article. The original article is marked as retracted but remains available to readers, and a retraction notice informing readers about the invalidity of the published article is linked to the original article.

  • Editor’s Note: An editor's note is a statement from the editors notifying readers about issues related to the published article. It is an online update made only on the publication record page of the article.

Decisions regarding the types of corrections are discussed with the Editorial Board, but the Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision on the category under which the change is published.
