In recent years, the United States has experienced a period of political crisis and intense social polarization, which led to exceptional historical events, exposing weaknesses and contradictions of 'American Democracy'. However, historically, the country has claimed the exceptional predicate of reference of liberal democracy, representing a 'lighthouse' for humanity, despite possible adversities and internal contradictions. In the midst of a turbulent transition of governments, Joe Biden's presidency seeks to resolve internal political and social instabilities, while at the same time a challenging geopolitical situation is outlined at the international level, with the rise of China and the re-ascension of Russia as rival powers challenging global leadership. In view of this, the new National Security Strategy, published in October 2022, aims to present the main values, purposes and challenges to be faced by the Biden-Harris government, supported by democratic rhetoric as an important strategic resource. Therefore, this analytical-critical essay aimed to analyse the emerging democratic rhetoric in the new Biden-Harris National Security Strategy, in light of the historical and philosophical aspects that shaped the 'American Democracy'.
