Abstract

Reflecting on the discursive relations between East and West is to conceive a profound game of interests and representations, of action and reaction. Ten years after the beginning of the event westernly known as “Arab Spring”, Tunisia has gone through several changes in its political arrangement and its role in that relation has been revitalized. At the same time that the tunisian transition disrupted Orientalist notions, from an Edward Said (2007) definition, it made necessary great efforts of discursive misrepresentation from the United States press in this game. Acknowledging that, the purpose of this article is to discuss the western expectations role in the creation of the East, aligned, therefore, with the Constructivist theory and the French Discourse Analysis and focusing on this period of change in Tunisia. Surpassing this object, this article, in that way, seeks to debate which actors have the voice in the International System and, therefore, have the power of representation.
