Abstract

The study of the geopolitics of renewable energy consists of the analysis of how the geographic and technical characteristics of these sources can reshape interstate energy relations. This article reviews the international literature on the emerging influence of renewable sources on geopolitics and then focuses on
the Brazilian case. The aim is to understand the implications and opportunities of the international insertion for Brazil amid the transformations underway in the global energy scenario. The argument defended in this article is that, for the international insertion of Brazil in the new geopolitical context resulting from the wide adoption of renewable energies, the country needs to use the potential of the abundant availability of energy resources in its territory and coordinate energy integration with other South American countries.
