15 Years of Monções: Honoring the Past, Looking to the Future
Dear readers and collaborators,
This year, Monções celebrates its 15th anniversary. Over the course of its history, the journal has published 28 issues, 24 thematic dossiers, and more than 450 contributions, including articles, book reviews, translations, and interviews. In this celebratory context, we express our sincere recognition of the work carried out by previous editorial teams, whose dedication was fundamental to consolidating Monções as a reputable journal, known for the quality of its publications, its openness to innovative themes, and its contribution to strengthening academic debate in the field of International Relations.
More recently, Monções has undergone a transition in its editorial team, marked by the departure of Professors Bruno Boti Bernardi, Déborah Silva do Monte, and Matheus Hernandez, and the arrival of Felipe Estre, Fernanda Barasuol, Flávio Contrera, and Manuela Trindade Viana. We assume this position, fully aware of the responsibility to continue the tradition of excellence that has characterized the journal’s trajectory.
The collective efforts of these teams recently culminated in the journal’s elevation to the Qualis A2 stratum, an achievement that reflects the seriousness and consistency of the work developed over the years.
The new editorial team takes on its role committed to continuing this legacy while also seeking to improve processes and expand the journal’s outreach, with particular emphasis on institutional and regional diversity within Brazil and, more broadly, across Latin America.
We have also worked to streamline the editorial workflow, reducing our evaluation and decision timelines by more than 20% between 2024 and 2025, as well as to strengthen our scientific communication strategies. In this regard, we invite the community to follow Monções on social media — Instagram (revistamoncoesufgd), Facebook (revistamoncoes), and LinkedIn (revistamoncoes) — to stay updated on our calls for papers, published issues, and additional content.
Amid the ongoing innovations, we reaffirm our commitment to the traditions that have become hallmarks of Monções, especially the organization of thematic dossiers recognized for their relevance to contemporary debates in International Relations. In this context, we highlight the dossier “Indigenous Peoples in Global Politics,” which will be part of our 2026.1 issue, and the dossier “Studies in Conflict and Peace: Multidisciplinary Perspectives and Global Dialogues,” which is currently accepting submissions until March 25, 2026.
Finally, but no less importantly, we express our deep appreciation to all those who have contributed to this process, especially the reviewers, whose careful — and often invisible — work is indispensable to maintaining the journal’s academic quality. May we continue to build, collectively, the next chapters of Monções.
Monções Editorial Team
