Call for Papers Special Issue “Regional Integration Processes and the Challenges of the 21st Century: Sustainable Development, Human Rights and Borders”

2024-11-02

The impacts of climate change, human rights violations, threats to the rule of law, and the consequences of cross-border flows are at the heart of current political discussions. In this context, this special issue seeks to engage those who study sustainable development, human rights, regional integration, and borders. Among other themes, we especially encourage submissions of manuscripts exploring topics such as: cooperation between Brazil and the European Union (EU) or its members regarding the aforementioned agendas; the position of the European Parliament on the aforementioned issues after the 2024 elections; EU policies for the energy transition; technological innovation; gender equality; refugee protection; border control and the fight against transnational crimes; and the promotion of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

This special issue is the result of the research projects “Europe-Brazil Center for Studies on Regional Cooperation and Integration (CEBS) 2.0” by the Jean Monnet Chair at UFGD, “European Union and Brazil Hub for Innovative and Sustainable Strategies (EUB hub)” of the Jean Monnet Chair of UFG, and the European Center of Excellence at UFMG (WISDOM II). All projects are funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ Program. Led by the Army Command and General Staff School (RJ) and funded by the Ministry of Defense (MD) and by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), the PROCAD project “National Defense, Borders, and Migration: studies on Humanitarian Aid and Integrated Security” supports the initiative.
