Sexual orientation, gender identity and immigration
the importance of the Non-Governmental Organization, Rainbow Railroad, in assisting LGBTI+ Jamaican immigrants in the refugee status application process

The present paper has, as a general objective, to present the importance of the Canadian Non-Governmental Organization, Rainbow Railroad, in the reception and help of LGBTI+ immigrants from Jamaica. To this purpose, the methodology used is qualitative exploratory, making use of bibliographic sources, such as texts that address the topic of LGBTI+ refugees, as well as data and documents offered by the Rainbow Railroad, UNHCR and other human rights organizations. Therefore, according to the hypothesis that moves this work, due to the fact that there is no international treaty that incorporates the conception and applicability on the guarantee of refuge by sexual orientation and gender identity, by the States, it is noted that a significant part of this process is done and/or facilitated by non-state actors.
