Abstract

Falecido em 1927, Capistrano de Abreu, assim como muitos dos intelectuais que lhe foram contemporâneos, foi objeto de práticas deliberadas de construção da memória, sendo a criação da Sociedade Capistrano de Abreu (1927-1969) a materialização das aspirações dos “discípulos”, amigos e pares de Capistrano de Abreu em torná-lo um personagem memorável para a história da inteligência brasileira. Esta instituição passou por vários momentos representativos da produção historiográfica nacional, e em seus últimos anos de atividade foi dirigida pelo historiador José Honório Rodrigues. Dessa forma, este artigo tem o objetivo discutir as representações construídas sobre Capistrano de Abreu por esta sociedade.
