“A máquina do ódio: notas de uma repórter sobre fake news e violência digital” (2020) é uma narrativa de Patrícia Campos Mello, repórter especial da Folha de São Paulo. A obra versa sobre a trajetória da jornalista na investigação do papel das mídias sociais nas irregularidades do marketing político digital no período das eleições brasileiras, a partir da constatação da existência de esquemas ilegais de compras de pacotes de envios em massa de mensagens. A obra, que é dividida em quatro capítulos, utiliza trechos de reportagens publicadas pela autora na Folha desde 2014 e, também, de uma profusão de dados quantitativos e qualitativos. Com isso, Mello (2020) procura relacionar a ilegalidade no aumento da desinformação política e a formação de uma “máquina do ódio” eleitoral. Como arcabouço teórico, Mello (2020) é influenciada pelas considerações de Hannah Arendt (2013) e de Giulianno Da Empoli (2019).
