Abstract

This text highlights the main cultural manifestations in the cities of Barreiras and Angical, located in West Bahia, within the scope of religion and its symbolisms. Among the several cultural manifestations experienced, there are beliefs and legends, whoopee, handicraft, harvest feasts, and the agricultural calendar. The scientific initiation project has PIBIC/Fapesb financial support. It is about a cultural investigation that aims to inventory six cities from West Bahia. To this end, interviews were conducted with leaders and culture coordinators. To elaborate the inventory, that foresees the acknowledgement of the role culture plays in a determined geographic space and is territorialized in it, we chose to discuss the theme from description of material and immaterial symbols. The territories, where the cultural manifestations are expressed, are conceived and perceived as synthesis of the resistance of a people against other cultural values aimed at consumption and pleasure. We emphasize the importance of the permanence of sacred as a source of faith, rite, encounter and cultural resistance.
