Abstract

The paper aims to present the methodological procedures of macroscopic analysis for assessing the environmental conservation of springs, taking as a case study a spring area of the Cabeceira Alta Stream, located in Sonora, state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Specifically, it seeks to apply and evaluate the feasibility of the Spring Environmental Impact Index (IIAN) method, with the purpose of monitoring the conservation of these environments and enabling their integration into water resources management. The methodology consisted of a thematic review and the application of the Rapid Assessment Protocol (RAP) tool, correlated with the IIAN. The results made it possible to measure visual aspects of the water and the surroundings of the springs in the Cabeceira Alta stream. Furthermore, they allowed the generation of a conservation status index for the study area which, although legally protected, is vulnerable to contamination, requiring monitoring and conservation measures. Finally, the study highlights the feasibility of applying the IIAN method, contributing to the production of information aimed at monitoring springs and supporting decision-making in watershed management.
