Abstract

The Graduate Program in Geography (Posgea) at UFRGS integrates scientific excellence, social commitment, and interdisciplinarity. Structured around the research lines of Environmental Analysis, Territorial Analysis, and Geography Teaching, the program links research, teaching, and extension to promote social transformations. The article demonstrates this work through: research that provides input for public policies, such as flood vulnerability mapping; community engagement projects like "Geography Quilombolas"; and innovative teacher training. The technical advisory work for national and international committees and the response to the 2024 climate crisis in Rio Grande do Sul exemplify the translation of knowledge into practical interventions. It is concluded that Posgea consolidates Geography as an applied science, generating tangible impacts in building a more just and resilient society.
