Controlled release fertilizers and their effects on corn

Abstract

The objective of this work was to verify the efficiency of fertilization technologies with N-controlled release fertilizers on the morphological and productive characteristics of corn second crop. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, with four replications and four treatments: T1: 05-25-15+ conventional urea; T2: 05-25-15+ slow-release urea; T3: 23-14-14; T4: 23-14-14+ conventional urea. The agronomic and productive characteristics were evaluated. The results were submitted to analysis of variance, using F test, and Tukey's mean test was applied. How N is made available affects its morphological and productive development. Slow and controlled release fertilizers provide better performance in height, thousand-grain mass, number of ears and average weight of ears and higher productivity. The edaphoclimatic conditions can influence the performance of coated fertilizers, as they provide statistically similar results to the use of conventional urea, at the same total dose of N.
