This study aimed to compare two methods of estimating the optimum plot size to evaluate the fresh matter of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) and showy rattlebox (Crotalaria spectabilis Roth.). Fifteen uniformity trials were carried out sorghum and showy rattlebox cultivated alone and intercropped. Fresh matter was evaluated in 540 basic experimental units (BEU) of 1 m × 1 m (36 BEU per trial). The optimum plot size was determined using the methods modified maximum curvature and linear response with plateau model. Largest optimum plot size and, consequently, greater experimental precision is obtained by the linear response with plateau model compared to modified maximum curvature method. The optimum plot size to evaluate the fresh matter of sorghum and showy rattlebox cultivated alone or intercropped is 8.23 m2.
