The decision of when and how much to irrigate can be significantly improved through modeling, based on the soil water balance. Thus, the objective of this study was to simulate the water balance, the need for irrigation and the current evapotranspiration deficit (ETc act) of corn in physiographic regions in RS. The SIMDualKc (Water Balance Simulation – SWB) model was used to simulate the soil water balance alone, for sowings on 10/05 and 10/20, between 2010 and 2022. The input data were physical-water characteristics of the soil, data meteorological, crop data, plant height, fraction of soil covered by the crop at each stage, basal crop coefficients, soil cover, in addition to runoff and deep percolation. The SWB indicates differences in the water requirement and need for corn irrigation for the physiographic Regions of RS, which is due to meteorological, soil and crop factors. The SWB indicates lower water requirements for sowings carried out on 10/20 in most regions, with the exception of Serra do Nordeste. The highest values of evapotranspiration (ETc) were for the physiographic region of Serra do Sudeste, while the greatest need for irrigation was in the Lower Slope of Vale do Nordeste. Lower ETc values were found in the southeast of the state, for the Great Lakes, Central Depression and Coastal regions, which also have the lowest water needs. The largest ETc act deficit was 214 and 204 mm, for the sowing dates of 05 and 20/10, respectively, in the Campanha-Bagé region.
