The Urban Heat Island (ICU) effect is a phenomenon deeply analyzed in climate studies. Information on the driving forces of intra-urban temperature variation is essential for the improvement of the urban thermal environment, since rapid urbanization usually leads to the formation of the ICU, which according to recent studies is linked to the particular characteristics of each city. Thus, identifying the main aspects that contribute to the formation and intensity of ICUs is of fundamental relevance for urban planning. From this, the present research sought to understand the influence of Local Climatic Zones (LCZ) on the intensity and occurrence of ICUs from a systematic review of the literature for the period from 2012 to 2020, with emphasis on the use of the WORLD URBAN DATABASE AND tool ACCESS PORTAL TOOLS (WUDAPT). More than 160 works were evaluated and only those that actually answered the central question of the research were selected. The results showed a positive correlation between the LCZ and the intensity of the ICUs and their occurrences, however, these results are conditioned to different methodological arrangements used in the analyzed studies. The meta-analysis pointed out that most of the studies that carried out the study in ICU and in locu research focus on the northern hemisphere, whereas the studies that use more secondary data, satellite images and mobile transect for the determination of ICUs, focus on the northern hemisphere. south.
