The São Paulo of a thousand and one meadows: the city taken by soccer in the first decades of the twentieth Century

In the first decades of the twentieth century the city of São Paulo was radically taken by soccer games. From the meadows to the streets an wastelands there was a radiating profusion of this practice, with uncountable variations of soccer. The spatial center of this city filled with soccer was at the meadows of the rivers Tietê and Pinheiros, where there were hundreds, maybe thousands of amateur soccer fields, and some of them happened to organized themselves as teams. This text aims to study this city of meadow fields and tries to understand the foundations and the reasons of their disappearance, a brutal process which goes from the ludic (space) to the profit.
