Abstract

Este texto retrata parte da história de um camponês maranhense chamado Manoel Conceição Santos, um dos maiores articuladores da luta camponesa em resistência ao regime militar no país. Começou organizando o sindicato de trabalhadores rurais no vale do Pindaré-Mirim, no Maranhão, posteriormente contribuiu na organização de entidades importantes no cenário nacional como a Central Única dos Trabalhadores - CUT, o Partido dos Trabalhadores – PT e o Centro de Educação e Cultura do Trabalhador Rural – CENTRU. Por suas ações foi perseguido, preso e torturado na ditadura militar. No exílio em Genebra, se engaja, juntamente com outros exilados, na luta contra governos repressivos. Após três anos fora do Brasil, retorna e dá continuidade, até os dias atuais, a luta em favor de uma sociedade justa.Trabalha com associações e cooperativas, desenvolvendo atividades que visam o aperfeiçoamento dessas organizações e o bem-estar dos trabalhadores.
