A imigração de sírios e libaneses no antigo Sul de Mato Grosso: o caso de Dourados (1914 – 1960)

Abstract

Analisamos os fatores políticos e econômicos da emigração de sírios e libaneses da Grande Síria, no Oriente Médio, para o interior do Brasil, no antigo Sul de Mato Grosso, na cidade de Dourados. No início do século XX, Dourados apresentou mudanças nos meios de transporte e nos centros de abastecimento do comércio circunscrito, que passavam por Aquidauana, Campo Grande e depois ao oeste de São Paulo. Iniciavam com o trabalho móvel de mascates, depois fixam residências e casas comerciais já no início dos anos 1920. Com a implantação da Colônia Agrícola Nacional de Dourados – CAND, 1943, a cidade acelerou seu processo de urbanização, aumentando a população e tornando-se um espaço promissor de maiores relações comerciais atraindo mais ainda imigrantes sírios e libaneses, os quais ajudaram a compor as diferentes identidades locais.
