Considerações sobre a fonte iconográfica na escrita da História Indígena

Abstract

Quando o uso das imagens foi além do suporte para o verbal, o debate sobre a interpretação do historiador na descrição iconográfica se ampliou e conferiu novos desafios para a compreensão do outro na trajetória histórica. O presente artigo, em uma proposta que cruza os saberes da Etnoistória e Antropologia, aborda este debate a partir de fontes iconográficas produzidas pelo pintor-viajante Hercules Florence, durante a expedição Langsdorff (1825-1829) que percorreu por via fluvial o interior do Brasil colônia. De caráter etnográfico, as fontes favorecem a compreensão do modus vivendi de povos em situação de contato e suas dinâmicas próprias no âmbito das representações gráficas e seus códigos culturais.
