Vias de comunicação e meios de transporte no Sul de Santa Catarina 1850–1950

Abstract

O objetivo deste texto é discutir a inserção das vias de comunicação e dos meios de transporte na região sul de Santa Catarina entre 1850 e 1950. Serão destacadas duas modalidades de transporte dentro de quatro tipos de iniciativas: a) o projeto fracassado da Estrada de Ferro Dom Pedro I e a construção da Estrada de Ferro Dona Tereza Cristina; b) a navegação marítima a vapor, representada pela Companhia Catarinense de Navegação a Vapor e pela Empresa Nacional de Navegação Hoepcke, e navegação fluvial, com o projeto do canal de navegação entre Laguna e Porto Alegre, executado apenas o trecho Laguna–Jaguaruna. Na história dos transportes no sul de Santa Catarina residem os elementos da totalidade do movimento lento de transformações do sistema de transporte no Brasil.
