Abstract

Este artigo tem por objetivo mostrar o processo de construção da identidade nacional brasileira, no século XIX, ressaltando a sua necessidade, em meio a uma crise política presente no Brasil do pós-independência. Desta maneira, abordaremos a situação política que ensejou os intelectuais do período a pensarem uma identidade para o Brasil, identificando quais foram os elementos escolhidos para representar essa identidade, com destaque para o papel da natureza tropical do país, e como se deu esse processo. Além disso, buscaremos mostrar os conceitos e o histórico por traz dos movimentos de construção da identidade nacional, no Brasil e no mundo.
