Abstract

Este trabalho propõe um exercício de reflexão teórica sobre o papel da história militar e as críticas que lhe são freqüentemente dirigidas, articulando essas questões com as reflexões sobre a construção histórica empreendida pela História Cultural, de forma a mostrar que as fraquezas e vulnerabilidades que atingem a produção histórica militar são as mesmas a que está sujeita de maneira geral toda produção historiográfica. O objetivo não é redimir a história militar e sua produção oficial pelo caráter ideológico comumente incutido nessas produções, mas sim, tornar o leitor atento a essas características que são marcantes nas construções históricas oficiais em função do papel institucional que exercem, de forma a ultrapassar barreiras culturais que se colocam diante dos historiadores e que acabam reproduzindo visões essencializadas sobre “os militares” como categoria de análise.
