Abstract

O livro A Retirada da Laguna de Alfredo D´Escragnolle Taunay, tem sido revisitado por instituições governamentais e intelectuais ligados as elites sul-mato-grossense. À rememoração desse episódio da guerra com o Paraguai, apropriando-se das representações contidas na obra, tem, entre outras, pretensões à elaboração de estudos para a implantação de eventos como a Trilha da Retirada da Laguna, esforço do governo de Mato Grosso do Sul em inserir o Estado no roteiro turístico internacional de visitação histórica. O objetivo deste artigo é discutir, da perspectiva da ciência histórica, o processo como aqueles estudos vêm sendo realizados, além de indicar, tomando por base o turismo como ciência relacional, alguns elementos capazes de garantir o sucesso de uma trilha voltada para o turismo histórico e cultural.
