Abstract

Neste texto, propomos a discussão do tema da Educação Popular a partir de algumas experiências vividas por movimentos sociais ligados a uma instituição católica na cidade de Andradina, interior do estado de São Paulo, Brasil, como representativas das práticas de resistência a partir do ano 1970 até meados dos anos 1990. Seus conceitos, seus teóricos, suas matrizes discursivas terão aqui um encontro com experiências vivenciadas por homens e mulheres comuns que se puseram em luta a partir das discussões empreendidas no bojo desta Educação Popular propugnada por Paulo Freire e por teólogos da libertação. As conquistas e contradições dos grupos aqui revelados conformam, em muito, a própria construção das classes populares na América Latina e podem contribuir para uma reflexão que ilumine os caminhos e descaminhos de uma educação que hoje se mostra esquizofrênica e inoperante, incapaz de envolver a juventude e incentivá-la a construir um novo horizonte social, uma nova utopia.
