Violação dos Direitos Humanos em nome da segurança estatal: considerações sobre os eventos de abril de 2003 em Cuba

Abstract

O presente ensaio analisa as violações dos direitos humanos promovida pelo governo cubano em 2003. Tendo em mente a histórica hostilidade entre EUA e Cuba, esta última, no argumento de estar tomando medidas em nome de sua segurança nacional que estaria sendo ameaçada por iniciativa do governo norte-americano, destitui constantemente direitos civis e políticos de seus cidadãos. No ensaio daremos especial atenção à onda repressiva promovida pelo governo cubano em março e abril de 2003, que resultou na aplicação da pena de morte a três sequestradores e na prisão de 75 opositores de Fidel Castro. Estes atos cometidos por Cuba tiveram forte repercussão internacional, com protestos expressados por personalidades de destaque, como os escritores ganhadores do Prêmio Nobel de Literatura, Gabriel García Márquez e José Saramago.
